The Effect of Nutrition on Virulence (Harmfulness) in Viruses

Posted in Healthy Food & Agriculture on March 11th, 2014 by dhawkinsmo

“The nutritional status of the host can have a profound influence on a virus, so that a normally avirulent virus becomes virulent because of changes in the viral genome. Our studies suggest that outbreaks of disease attributed to a nutritional deficiency may actually result from infection by a virus that has become pathogenic by replicating in a nutritionally deficient host.”

American Society for Clinical Nutrition, “Nutritionally induced oxidative stress: effect on viral disease,” Melinda A Beck (2000) LINK HERE

Another interesting article by Melinda Beck HERE (full text).

Folks, this way of thinking is in line with Bechamp and opposed to his rival, Pasteur. It is also in line with the most famous nurse of modern times – Florence Nightengale. And Hippocrates. And, finally, Aldo Leopold, one the greatest ecologists of modern times. If we humans would simply work WITH nature as Aldo Leopold wanted us to do, instead of trying to “beat Nature into submission” (an impossibility), soooo many things would fall into place – food production, health care, economics – all sorts of stuff. As Joel Salatin likes to say “So what we’re trying to do is heal the land. That’s number one is heal the land. Everything else is secondary. Of course, what happens is, when you heal the land, you heal people, and economies, and communities, and all sorts of things.” LINK

Combatting Warped Ideas About “Modesty”

Posted in Biblical, Christianity/America on March 11th, 2014 by dhawkinsmo

Awesome article by Dale Fincher (PCC Grad). Long overdue. From the article … the entire article is 6 different blog posts, all linked from this one (the first one) … enjoy!

It’s summer time again!

Time to lather on some Summer Shame. The Lifeguards of Summer are on duty, keeping us safe. The whistles blows, fingers are pointed, and we are reminded of the “rules.”

Sadly, many of the well-intended Modesty Lifeguards come from the offspring of shame-based cultures which breed spiritual abuse. Many of the recent arguments could have been lifted straight from the rules of my alma mater, Pensacola Christian College. These assumptions can apply to many “social sins.”

I’ll take these post by post, tackling one at a time.

All women are sex goddesses that every man wants. (This post!)
Modesty is the opposite of sexy.
Only Men Lust.
Lust is the only sin that results from immodesty.
Christians must do all they can to keep themselves and others from lust.
If we do not keep others from sin, we are guilty of their sins too.
These assumptions, used in the “modesty” language today, are found in spiritually abusive cultures.

Wolves and Interesting “Permaculture” Scriptures: Working Less to Feed More People

Posted in Healthy Food & Agriculture on March 11th, 2014 by dhawkinsmo

Wolves_RiversSome of the key reasons I joined the Permaculture movement are found in Psalm 127:2, Matthew 11:28-29, John 10:10 and II Chronicles 7:14. Stick with me for a moment and I will explain what I’m talking about. Before I give you the Scripture verses, I want to share with you a nugget of wisdom from an influential Permaculture leader, Masanobu Fukuoka, author of One Straw Revolution

“I do not particularly like the word ‘work.’ Human beings are the only animals who have to work, and I think that is the most ridiculous thing in the world. Other animals make their livings by living, but people work like crazy, thinking that they have to in order to stay alive. The bigger the job, the greater the challenge, the more wonderful they think it is. It would be good to give up that way of thinking and live an easy, comfortable life with plenty of free time. I think that the way animals live in the tropics, stepping outside in the morning and evening to see if there is something to eat, and taking a long nap in the afternoon, must be a wonderful life. For human beings, a life of such simplicity would be possible if one worked to produce directly his daily necessities. In such a life, work is not work as people generally think of it, but simply doing what needs to be done.”

Now for the Scripture verses which have new meaning for me thanks to Permaculture leaders like Mr. Fukuoka …

First, Psalm 127:2 (NIV) – “In vain you rise early and stay up late toiling for food to eat, for He grants sleep to those He loves.” All my life it has struck me how hard we “civilized” folks work. Work, work, work. Very little time to think. Always working. Always tired. Always stressed out. Never much time to Read more »

70 Year Old Woman Looks 30 – “Let Food Be Thy Medicine”

Posted in Healthy Food & Agriculture on March 11th, 2014 by dhawkinsmo

Annette_LarkinsWow. You gotta see the news story about this lady. She is amazing.

Her mother and grandmother both died of breast cancer at 47, and 36 years old, respectively. Her grandmother’s sisters died of cancer at early ages. Diabetes runs in her family.

Annette Larkins is in perfect health and doesn’t take aspirin. In fact, she doesn’t take any medication at all, at least by the conventional modern definition. She is a fanatic of REAL medicine and lives by the quote, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” ― Hippocrates

Mrs. Larkins grows a plethora of fruit, vegetables, and herbs around and inside of her house. She collects rainwater and makes gallons of juice from what she grows. Wheatgrass is one of her specialties. She grows her own and drinks the juice regularly. Yet another anecdotal case of raw food and juicing providing overall health and endless youth. http://themindunleashed.org/2014/03/70-year-old-looks-30-reveals-fountain-youth.html

I’m fascinated with this particularly because I am more of a Weston Price guy – real meat, milk, eggs, etc – when it comes to food. But I cannot ignore the fact that Adam and Eve probably ate more like this woman eats and look how long they lived! (There were other factors with them too, yes, I realize that)

NOTE (3/24/14): Someone suggested that this lady might have used Botox to look so young.  So I emailed her and asked.  She said that she has not used Botox.
