“BABYLON THE GREAT” AND CHRISTIAN STEWARDCULTURE

Posted in Biblical, Healthy Food & Agriculture on January 8th, 2016 by dhawkinsmo

I’ve been fascinated for a long time with Bible Prophecy and until recently I was a bit mystified about “Babylon the Great” (Revelation 18). However, it’s dawned on me recently that “Babylon the Great” is probably one and the same with what George Bush Sr. called “The New World Order” and it appears to me that two key components of this “Babylon/NWO” system are

(1) Big Cities, which in turn are dependent on …
(2) Big Agriculture and it’s attendant land control schemes and distribution networks.

One of the key characteristics I see in Big Ag is … FORCING the ground. Or to be blunt, RAPING the ground. God tells us we should “serve the ground” (Gen. 2:5 … “till” is a mistranslation – talk to Dan Grubbs). Josephus writes that “God was more delighted with the latter oblation, [Abel's] when he was honored with what grew naturally of its own accord, than he was with what was the invention of a covetous man, [Cain] and gotten by FORCING the ground; [emphasis mine]” (Ant. Bk.1, Ch. 2). One of the key characteristics of big cities seems to me to be PRIDE. (See Nebuchadnezzar’s boast about “great Babylon” in Daniel 4:30, “Glory of Rome” etc). So we have FORCING + PRIDE as the key characteristics of the “Babylon/NWO” system. So we could say that God wants us to do the opposite of this and follow the “Abel Way” (humbly working WITH Nature) as opposed to the “Cain Way” (proudly beating Nature into submission … which doesn’t work, by the way, all you get is death, destruction and slavery). I get the impression that in general God doesn’t like Big Cities (or at least the Pride that often goes along with them), as evidenced by the Tower of Babel Dispersion where God scattered them over the face of the earth.

So finally at 52 years of age, I have come to view the world in these terms:

Babylon / NWO / Forcing the Ground / Big Industrial Ag / Big Cities Dependent on Big Ag / Pride

vs.

Christian Stewardculture / Serving the Earth / Nurturing Her so that She Flourishes / Small Productive Communities Dependent only on God and their own Resourcefulness / Humility

NOTE1 … The Babylon / NWO system got it’s start with Cain, then the Tower of Babel, then Nimrod and Babylon and the kingdoms which succeeded Babylon – Persia, Greece and Rome, as depicted in Nebuchadnezzar’s Vision of the Great Image. Now it appears to me we are living in the Age of the Feet of Mixed Iron and Clay. Soon – I hope – the Stone cut out of the mountain without hands will smash the Feet of Iron and Clay and the God of Heaven will set up a Kingdom which shall never be destroyed. And the angel of Revelation 18 will shout “Babylon the Great is fallen, is fallen …”

NOTE2 … James Lovelock’s “Gaia” Hypothesis is interesting to me and – I believe – a very good description of how the earth really works. I find it fascinating that he chose a woman (Greek goddess named “Gaia”) to represent his theory. In light of this post, the Earth truly can be thought of as a woman … which can be RAPED … or LOVED. Men, not only should we ask ourselves “How do we treat the Earth that God gave us to steward?” but also “How do we treat our women that God gave us as help meets?” Do we RAPE and FORCE them? (Even within our marriages?) Or do we LOVE and NOURISH and CHERISH them?

Sir William Jones, Father of Modern Linguistics on the Three Original Languages at Babel

Posted in Biblical on December 24th, 2015 by dhawkinsmo

LINGUISTICS. I’m a bit of a “language geek” since my mother and father were both linguists. So I was fascinated to find out the following info from the “Father of Modern Linguistics,” Sir William Jones, discoverer of the “Proto Indo-European” language … this bit is from George Stanley Faber, written in the early 1800s about how there were probably only 3 original languages at the Babel Confusion …

“Now the researches of Sir William Jones are in effect the very process, by which alone the matter can be settled: and it is remarkable, that they at once finally decide the question, account for the circumstance which has been noticed in the history of Abraham, and establish the number of primary languages which originated at Babel. He has discovered, we have seen, three primary tongues, into which, so far as such points can be positively determined, all other tongues ultimately resolve themselves. These three he pronounces to be radically and essentially different from each other, both in words and in grammar and in construction, so that no two of them could have originated from the third: and all the three he finds existing together in that centrical region, whence the several families which spoke them must have branched off, and where Moses fixes the production of some preternatural dialectical confusion which was the efficient cause of that emigration. Hence, I think, it will necessarily follow, both that the confusion at Babel must have been a real confusion of language, not merely a temporary inarticulateness of pronunciation; and that the number of primary languages, which then arose, was precisely three, answering, though not with absolute exclusiveness, to the three great patriarchal houses. Hence also we must understand the languages, which are said by Moses to have been severally spoken in the various families of those three houses, as mere dialects of one or other of the primary tongues; which, in process of time, received such alteration, that even the families of the same house became unintelligible to each other.(Faber, “Origin of Pagan Idolatry,” Volume III, p. 465)

Founding Wai Wai Elder Mawasha Dies

Posted in Biblical, Healthy Food & Agriculture on May 9th, 2014 by dhawkinsmo

WaiWaiEldersToday is a sad day for me.

Mawasha (second from right, the tallest), one of the founding elders of the original Wai Wai church died yesterday in a hospital in Manaus, Brazil.  The founding 5 elders from left to right are Melsha, Kirifaka, Elka, Mawasha and Yakuta.  As far as I know, Yakuta is now the only remaining original elder.  I knew and respected ‘Taam’ Mawasha (‘Taam’ is loosely translated ‘Mister’) when I was a boy growing up on the jungle mission station of Kanashen, deep in the jungles of Guyana, South America, established by my Dad and Mom, Bob & Florine Hawkins and by his brother, my uncle Neill Hawkins. The name of that station which means ‘God Loves You’ lives on in the current name for the entire district in Southern Guyana encompassing the original station which is now overgrown with jungle. “When I am Weak, Then I am Strong” Illustrated: George Frederic Handel

Posted in Biblical on March 30th, 2014 by dhawkinsmo

Feeling like a failure? Have a lot of “bad” things happened to you lately? You’re not alone. One of the greatest composers of music the world has ever known felt like a failure too. And at his lowest point, God stepped in and used George Frederic to work one of the greatest musical miracles of all time, illustrating 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 beautifully.

In 1737 Handel’s opera company went bankrupt and he suffered a stroke. His first oratorio, Esther, was condemned by church leaders for allowing the Words of God to be spoken in a theatre! The Bishop of London prohibited oratorio from being performed. However, when Handel proceed with Esther anyway, the Royal Family attended and it met with success. In 1739 advertisements for Handel’s Israel in Egypt were torn down by church leaders who also disrupted his performance. Read more »

Wisdom From Puddleglum the Marshwiggle

Posted in Biblical, Creation/Evolution on March 14th, 2014 by dhawkinsmo

“I don’t know rightly what you all mean by a world,” he said, talking like a man who hasn’t enough air. “But you can play that fiddle till your fingers drop off, and still you won’t make me forget Narnia; and the whole Overworld too. We’ll never see it again, I shouldn’t wonder. You may have blotted it out and turned it dark like this, for all I know. Nothing is more likely. But I know I was there once. I’ve seen the sky full of stars. I’ve seen the sun coming up out of the sea of a morning and sinking behind the mountains at night. And I’ve seen him up in the midday sky when I couldn’t look at him for brightness.”

I love this scene of Puddleglum in C.S. Lewis’ “Chronicles of Narnia: Silver Chair.” The Witch of the Underworld has cloaked Puddleglum and his friends in a “green fog” which, together with he “thrumming,” is muddling their thinking.  She is trying to make them think there is no such thing as Narnia. But Puddleglum fights hard and eventually breaks the spell after stepping on the fire, filling the air with the the smell of “burnt Marsh-wiggle, which is not at all an enchanting smell.”  The reason I like this so much is because it’s exactly what is happening to us in our day. We are TRULY under a spell of a different – but all too similar – sort.  And the god of this “underworld” wants us to believe there is no Heaven. No Hell. No God. No Creation. And further, that the “civilized” world is “normal.” Or that Baptist churches are “right.” And that other churches are “wrong.” And other such “lies du jour.”

Well, sorry, I’m with Puddleglum. No church I’ve been to is completely “right.” And none completely wrong.  And civilization is NOT “normal.”  Far from it.  And there IS a God. And a heaven. And a hell.

Thanks, Puddleglum, for the inspiration.

Combatting Warped Ideas About “Modesty”

Posted in Biblical, Christianity/America on March 11th, 2014 by dhawkinsmo

Awesome article by Dale Fincher (PCC Grad). Long overdue. From the article … the entire article is 6 different blog posts, all linked from this one (the first one) … enjoy!

It’s summer time again!

Time to lather on some Summer Shame. The Lifeguards of Summer are on duty, keeping us safe. The whistles blows, fingers are pointed, and we are reminded of the “rules.”

Sadly, many of the well-intended Modesty Lifeguards come from the offspring of shame-based cultures which breed spiritual abuse. Many of the recent arguments could have been lifted straight from the rules of my alma mater, Pensacola Christian College. These assumptions can apply to many “social sins.”

I’ll take these post by post, tackling one at a time.

All women are sex goddesses that every man wants. (This post!)
Modesty is the opposite of sexy.
Only Men Lust.
Lust is the only sin that results from immodesty.
Christians must do all they can to keep themselves and others from lust.
If we do not keep others from sin, we are guilty of their sins too.
These assumptions, used in the “modesty” language today, are found in spiritually abusive cultures.

Regina Dugan, Google, DARPA and the Mark of the Beast

Posted in Biblical on February 16th, 2014 by dhawkinsmo

I used to read a lot of Tim LaHaye books a few years back, but it’s been awhile. But this looks interesting again. Former DARPA head Regina Dugan joins Google and is pushing electronic tattoos, prompting the Examiner.com (a secular publication) to write this rather interesting article entitled “The Mark of the Beast on Steroids: The SMART Pill.” Enjoy!

Hot Debate on How the Alphabet Was Born

Posted in Biblical on December 22nd, 2013 by dhawkinsmo

From Biblical Archaeology Review 9/13/2012 … “In a landmark article in the March/April 2010 issue of BAR, Orly Goldwasser, professor of Egyptology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, explained how the very first alphabet, from which all other alphabets developed, was invented by illiterate Canaanite miners in the turquoise mines of Serabit el-Khadem in the Sinai peninsula. Inspired by Egyptian pictorial hieroglyphs and a desire to articulate their own thoughts in writing, these Canaanites created 22 alphabetic acrophonetic signs scratched into the rock that could express their entire language.

But Goldwasser did not convince everyone. Anson Rainey, emeritus professor of Ancient Near Eastern Cultures and Semitic Languages at Tel Aviv University, promptly responded to the article with his doubts that this watershed moment in human culture had been brought about by illiterate miners. In his letter Rainey argues that the alphabet was surely created by “highly sophisticated Northwest Semites”; who inscribed countless papyrus sheets that have not survived.” LINK HERE

How Illiterate Canaanite Workers Used Egyptian Hieroglyphics to Invent Alphabetic Writing

Posted in Biblical on December 15th, 2013 by dhawkinsmo

Last year sometime, I wrote an article about how the early form of Hebrew was a sort of hieroglyphic script. I learned this in a marriage seminar of all places put on by our church from Ken Nair and Life Partners Ministries. That article is found HERE. Recently someone challenged me on this saying that there is no evidence for this and that Dr. Frank Seekins was simply resurrecting an old discredited theory. Well, hold on. Not so fast. Here is a recent article (2010) in Biblical Archaeology Review that not only supports Seekins view, but also links Egyptian hieroglyphics, ancient proto-Sinaitic, paleo-Hebrew and modern alphabets like Greek and Latin.  Fascinating read.  Click HERE.  I for one would like to go back to using an alphabet something like the proto-Sinaitic.  As the article points out, seems like it would be easier for a kid in school to remember how to form a letter that is a picture of something rather than some abstract design of nothing-in-particular.  Speaking of “pictures of something”, would someone like to hazard a guess as to what the “something” is on the second row from bottom on the far left? :-0

God in Ancient China, Part II

Posted in Biblical on March 17th, 2012 by dhawkinsmo

Pastor Kong Hee gives a follow up talk to his Chinese New Year talk about God in Ancient China. Part I shows how the knowledge of the One True God, worshipped by Jews and Christians, was written into the ancient Chinese language. Now this video gives much more detail about the ancient Chinese worship and how closely it paralleled the worship of the Ancient Hebrews. Apparently, there was an emperor in China named Kang Xi who proclaimed Christianity to be the religion of the whole empire. I never knew this before. One of the most amazing things in this video is Pastor Hee’s claim that the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ were all recorded in Chinese documents at the time they occurred. He gives references to the original works. That would be a very interesting follow up study.
